SRIJAN

On September 11, 1937, Mahatma Gandhi wrote in The Harijan, “Physical drill, handicrafts, drawing and music should go hand in hand in order to draw the best out of the boys and girls and create in them a real interest in their tuition.”

This is so pertinent as without developing various faculties in a child the very essence of education will get defeated. Moreover, the children of today will shoulder responsibilities as citizens and leaders of tomorrow. In this backdrop it is essential that they are exposed to various skill sets and they develop an understanding of them. Keeping this objective in mind, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti launched ‘SRIJAN’- Gandhi Smriti Siksha Kendra on October 1, 2002 in the Gandhi Smriti campus at 5 Tees January Marg, New Delhi.

This ongoing project is open to all women and children who wish to develop some hobby and vocational skills. This programme has been designed with three- fold objectives including all round development of child; transforming them into patriotic and useful citizens of our country and preparing them for achieving moral and spiritual values with the help of knowledge and providing them vocational skills. So that they can become financially self-sufficient in future and encourage children to make constructive use of free time by developing various hobbies based on Gandhian values.
