National MUN Dialogue commemorates Kasturba Nirvan Diwas

About 160 students from Delhi, NCR, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Meerut and Chennai took part in a day-long national dialogue on Model United Nations. The agenda set for the day was “Role of Women Peacekeepers in Advancing International Security: Enhancing Mediation and Resolution Mechanisms”. The programme was organized in collaboration with Gandhi Study Circles of ARSD College, Zakir Hussain College and Mata Sundari College. Alongside a Jan Manch (People’s forum) was also convened on the theme “The Role of Women in Grassroots Decision-Making”. The programme was organized to commemorate the Kasturba Nirvan Diwas on February 25, 2026. Shri Sanjeet Kumar, Director GSDS inaugurated this programme along with Dr. Vedabhyas Kundu, Programme Officer, GSDS; Prof. Sanjeev Kumar from Zakir Hussain College.

The Model United Nations was moderated and judged by experts Advocate Mayank Singhal, Dr. Seema Pradhan, and Ms. Wania Hussain, with students serving as UN delegates representing 61 different countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, China, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, Georgia, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, Norway, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, South Korea, South Sudan, Spain, St. Lucia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and USA. Key highlights included the 2023 US Strategy on WPS, Norway’s focus on "peace through participation," and South Korea’s push for sustainable funding.

Shri Sanjeet Kumar awarded prizes to the winners of both the UNGA Committee and the Janmanch Committee. In the UNGA committee, the best delegate was awarded to Shwetank Upadhyay (Montenegro), High Commendation to Agam Deep Singh (Peru), Special Mention to Neel Brahma (Seychelles), Honourable Mention 1 to Sarthak Sharma (UK), and Honourable Mention 2 to Chiranjivi Kumar Yadav (North Korea). Best Newbie was given to Mohan Mishra (Finland), while Verbal Mentions were received by Aditya Kandpal (USA), Himanshu Tripathi (South Sudan), Kovid Sharma (Mongolia), Tanmay Sharma (Uruguay), Madhav Goyal (Bangladesh), Ananya Bisen (Georgia), and the representative from Czech Republic.

In the Janmanch committee – the Janmanch session explored the theme through the lens of grassroots democracy, centering on the autonomy of the Gram Sabha. The best representative was conferred on Ayush Vishwakarma, High Commendation on Satwik Upadhyaya, Special Mention on Parth Loya, Honourable Mention 1 on Harendra Singh Malik Aditi Sorout, and Honourable Mention 2 on Aarshad. Best Newbie was awarded to Tanushree Kashyap. The judges in this session included Dr. Shabana Azmi, Mr. Adarsh Pratap Singh and Ms. Renuka Soni.
